Frequently Ask Question
Have questions about camel milk, our farm, membership, or ordering? We’ve put together some of our most frequently asked questions to help you learn more about our camel milk and how we provide it.
Camel Milk & Storage
What is the shelf life of raw camel milk?
When properly refrigerated and kept between 33°F and 38°F, our raw camel milk can remain fresh for up to two weeks from the production date. Camel milk can also be frozen for up to six months. Freezing may cause a slight change in texture when thawed.
Is your camel milk pasteurized?
No. We sell raw camel milk only. Our milk is not pasteurized.
Is fresh camel milk better than frozen camel milk?
Freezing camel milk does not significantly affect its nutritional value. However, freezing and thawing may slightly change the taste or texture, and some separation is normal. For best results, thaw camel milk slowly in the refrigerator and gently shake before drinking. Do not microwave or heat the milk above 100°F, as excessive heat can affect naturally occurring enzymes and beneficial bacteria.
Once thawed, we recommend consuming the milk within one week.
Our Camels & Their Diet
What do your camels eat?
Our camels primarily eat hay, grass, and leaves from trees. Their diet is free from chemicals, wheat, corn, and soy.
For more information about our camels and how they are cared for, please see our Introduction page.
Safety & Quality
What safety standards do you follow?
As a membership association, we operate outside of state and federal dairy inspection programs. However, we take the quality and safety of our milk seriously and are accountable to our members and an independent third-party inspection process. We also periodically test our milk for bacterial levels and overall quality.
Visiting the Farm
Are farm tours or visits allowed?
Yes! Our members are welcome to personally visit the farm and see where their camel milk comes from.
Appointments are requested so we can make sure someone is available to assist you. If you make a purchase directly from the farm, cash is required.
Ordering & Shipping
How do you ship camel milk?
We have had great results shipping orders directly to our customers through FedEx.
We select the most appropriate shipping method based on your order and location, with the goal of providing safe transit times while keeping shipping costs as reasonable as possible.
Orders are carefully packed with ice packs or dry ice to help keep the milk properly chilled during transit.
Membership
Are there annual fees or membership renewals?
No. There are no annual renewal fees.
The membership you purchase is for your lifetime, so you do not have to worry about renewing your membership each year.
Taste
What does camel milk taste like?
If you’ve never tried camel milk before, you may be pleasantly surprised. The taste is similar to cow’s milk, but camel milk tends to have a slightly saltier and more distinctive flavor. Many first-time drinkers find it easy to enjoy, especially when served chilled.
